Lakshmanan (46) is a disabled person from Kangayam area of Tirupur district. Lakshmanan, who has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since the age of 5, has had an insatiable desire for cricket since childhood.
Meanwhile, he decided to coach his son in cricket as he could not attend cricket matches and took him to training camps.
He has also set up a separate cricket ground in the Kangayam area and coached those interested in playing.
In this case, a person who saw this has urged him to try for selection to the Tamil Nadu cricket team for the differently abled. He participated in the selections and has been selected.
He has also been selected for matches to be played in Dubai in November in which Tamil Nadu, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Rajasthan cricket teams are scheduled to play.
Following this, he met District Collector Vijayakarthikeyan at the collectorate today. The Collector congratulated him on his selection and assured that the District Administration would render all possible assistance to him.
