Coimbatore: The defending champions Chennai City FC's struggle continues as they were defeated 1-0 by Gokulam Kerala Football Club in the Hero I League clash at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here in the city on Wednesday.

The visitors have compensated their loss against the Lions at Kerala, earlier. This time, the team lacked consistency throughout the season but managed to sail over CCFC in the 79th minute as Marcus Joseph scored for his side.

Though both the team had many scoring opportunities in the game, the teams were scoreless until Joseph converted an opportunity to a goal to get three points.

The home team had an opportunity to score when they earned a free-kick at 43rd minute of the game and a brilliant save from Ubaid maintained the scoreboard unchanged.

Kerala cleared their line and caught the Chennai backline napping on the counter. Garcia led the charge before crossing it to Henry Kisseka but Santana was alert to the danger as the match ended level-pegging at the break. At the end of the first half scores were 0-0.

In the second half, both the teams had some scoring opportunities but no goals were secured. Finally, at the 79th minute, Joseph scored a winning goal for his side.

With this win, Gokulam Kerala FC is now at the third place in the table with 17 points, while CCFC is at 7th position with 14 points.
