Coimbatore: The 16th edition of All India Silambam Competition by All India Silambam Federation was kick-started at Karpagam University, here on Friday.
Coimbatore: The 16th edition of All India Silambam Competition by All India Silambam Federation was kick-started at Karpagam University, here on Friday.
Over 600 participants from around 16 States are participating in the three-day event hosted by Tamil Nadu Amateur Silambam Association along with Karpagam University.
This is the first time a National level Silambam competition is being organised in the city. Around 14 events are scheduled to take placr in thr three-day competition under various age and weight categories for both boys and girls.
The winners and best performers from this competition will be selected to represent India at World Silambam Championship that is to be held at Srilanka and Asian Silambam Championship at Bangladesh.
"Conducting a national-level tournament in Coimbatore is a big advantage to the students in the district. More students from the city will get a chance to prove their skill and build a career in the sport. We are organising this event in Coimbatore for the first time and the received astounding response from.the students and parents", said Selvaraj Asan, General Secretary of World Silambam Federation.
He added that more than 600 participants from various part are taking part in the competition which will conclude this Sunday.
