Coimbatore: Defending champions, Chennai City FC will look to gain winning momentum as they face table toppers, Mohun Bagan, Kolkata giants in the 13th Hero I League football match at Nehru Stadium, on Friday.
The defending champions did not have a good season so far as they are placed 9th in the table with only 2 wins. But the visitors are very strong at the top of the table, as they just lost a game a month back.
Apprising the media before the match, Chennai City FC attacker Adolfo ‘Fito’ Miranda said, “I believe the team has had one last defeat after the good away win against Gokulam Kerala. The team has exhibited steady improvement.”
“The beautiful thing about the upcoming game on Friday is that we have a chance again to win against Mohun Bagan. The team are top on their talent and spirit. Our supporters have stood by us and we have always strived to give them the best", he told.
He added that we hope to continue to give our best and be able to win the match to gradually get closer to the top half of the table. "Simply, that's what Chennai City aspires..!", concluded the Chennai FC's attacker.
Chennai City FC seeks support from their attacking options by bringing in Swiss forward Jan Mizunga, who made his debut in the Quess East Bengal game and the hosts will be hoping, he will have a greater impact on Friday’s game than he had in the loss against QEB.
Mohun Bagan gaffer Kibu Vicuna also commended the Chennai City FC team. “Chennai FC, the defending champions are a great team. They pass the ball around with good composure and their lineup of players are very good. Sure, it will not be an easy game for us."
Though Chennai City FC players were not up to their mark this season, they have defeated Mohun Bagan by 3-1 at home and claimed a 1-1 draw, in the away game.
