Coimbatore: Quess East Bengal claimed a 2-0 win over defending champions Chennai City FC in the Hero i-League clash at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the city on Saturday.
The defending champions didn’t play up to their usual standards. They were struggling to get the points on the table as a team and to get the right team combination. Chennai City FC gained their momentum in the last game as they defeated Mighty Gokulam at Kerala but failed to keep the momentum.
It was a slow beginning for both the teams as they were happy to pass the ball around without taking chance and it resulted in 0-0 at the end of the first half.
The intent was right from the visitors as they looked to attack and break CCFC's defences and created a chance at the 48th minute but the goalkeeper came up with a good save.
But Marcos de La Espada in the 68th minute of the game created a chance and scored the opener of the game and for his side as well.
Further, they continued their dominance as they scored another goal in the 77th minute of the game to take the lead to 2-0. After the second goal, the visitors really slowed down the game as they ended up with 2-0 win over the defending champions in Coimbatore.
