The third Khelo India Youth Games was held between January 10-22 at Guwahati, Assam. The 13-day sports extravaganza was exciting as athletes from various part of our country competed hard for the championship.

As a part of Khelo India Youth Games, Basketball tournament was conducted for boys and girls under various age categories in which two students from the city studying in Alvernia Matriculation Higher Secondary School represented Tamil Nadu in the championship.

Team Tamil Nadu was one of the best teams to have participated in the tournament. Girls from the state exhibited their skill to perfection as they kept marching towards a gold medal in the tournament.
Tamil Nadu played their finals against Rajasthan in a tight match as the match was equally poised until the city girl Sathya shot the winning shoot under pressure with just less than 2 minutes left. With Sathya's two pointer the champions Tamil Nadu took the lead to 59-57 to win the gold medal for the state.
In the overall medal tally, Tamil Nadu with 76 medals including 22 gold medals secured sixth place in the table. The overall championship was secured by Maharashtra as they bagged 256 overall medals including 78 gold medals. The second place was secured by Haryana with 200 medals including 68 golds.
