Inter Districts Cricket tournament: N Jagadeesan's 98 runs leads Coimbatore district to stunning victory

Coimbatore: N Jagadeesan's top class batting innings of 98 runs helped Coimbatore District to register a mammoth 109 runs win over Cuddalore District in the TNCA Inter district cricket tournament for S.S Rajan Trophy held at PSG medical college grounds on Thursday.

Inter districts cricket tournament for senior district teams are being conducted at six centres (Salem, Theni, Vilupuram, Dindigul, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli). Coimbatore being one of the centres is hosting the first round of the tournament. And, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Cuddalore, Kanyakumari and Tiruvannamalai are playing their first round in the city.

Today being the third day of the tournament, Coimbatore played against Cuddalore, while Tiruchirappalli played against Tiruvannamalai. In the first match held at PSG IMS 'A' ground, Coimbatore district and Cuddalore clashed.

Coimbatore batted first in which the opener N Jagadeesan scored 98 runs to give a good start to the team. S Sujay joined hands with the opener to put 218 runs on board. N Mohammed Ashik added 53 runs for his side.

Defending a huge total, the task was very easy for the bowlers as they struck at right. And, the Off spinner's 3 for 31 helped Coimbatore restrict the opponents to 109 runs. Thus, Coimbatore registered a hat trick win to qualify into the second round of the tournament.

Similarly in the second match, Tiruchirappalli clinched an easy win over Tiruvannamalai district as they defeated them by 87 runs.

Scores: Coimbatore 218/3 in 20 Overs (N.Mohammed Ashik 53, N.Jagadeesan 98, S.Sujay 47*) defeated Cuddalore 109/7 in 20 Overs (T.Manoj Kumar 52, R.Mithun 3/31).

Tiruchirapalli 173/5 in 20 Overs (P.Naveen 31, C.Sarath Kumar 56, P.S.Nirmal Kumar 34) defeated Tiruvannamalai 86/9 in 20 Overs (P.S.Nirmal Kumar 3/15).
