Coimbatore: Aruldas Academy team emerged victorious at the Puliakulam Mega Fives Football Tournament that was held on the occasion of Pongal festival here.
The Puliakulam Football Federation has been hosting the South India level Mega Fives Tournament for the past 20 years. This year, around 640 players from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra and other States participated in the tournament which was held in under 17, 19 and open category.
The tournament was held day and night at St. Antony's School grounds at Puliakulam starting from January 15.
And, 64 teams consisting of 640 players, competed with great spirit. The tournament concluded with cultural performances by Silambalaya Group. Following, this a mini football event for young girls was also held to encourage girls to take part in football.
At the final match of the Mega Fives Tournament, Aruldas Academy Team, Podanur took on the Puliakulam Football Federation Team B and emerged victorious by 2-1.
The winning team and players were presented with shields and cash prizes.
The emergency 108 service that was present in the field to assist players and provide first aid during the tournament, was appreciated and mementos were also presented to them.
