Coimbatore: Nachimuthu Polytechnic College emerged as champions by defeating PSG Polytechnic college in the finals of Divisional Level Inter Polytechnic College Cricket tournament hosted by PSG Polytechnic College on Monday.
Coimbatore: Nachimuthu Polytechnic College emerged as champions by defeating PSG Polytechnic college in the finals of Divisional Level Inter Polytechnic College Cricket tournament hosted by PSG Polytechnic College on Monday.
As many as 26 teams from Coimbatore division which comprises of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and Palani are participating in the divisional level tournament organised by Inter Polytechnic Athletic Association.
In the tournament which is being conducted under a knockout basis, 26 polytechnic colleges participated in the tournament. Nachimuthu Polytechnic College, Sri Krishna Polytechnic College, PSG Polytechnic College and NV Polytechnic College were the top four teams qualified into the semi-finals of the tournament.
In the first semi-finals, Nachimuthu polytechnic college defeated Sri Krishna polytechnic college by 105 runs to enter finals while the host PSG polytechnic college on the other side defeated NV polytechnic college by 5 wickets to enter into finals of the tournament.
In the finals of the tournament held on Monday, Nachimuthu college scored 173 runs in 25 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. In reply, PSG polytechnic college scored only 110 runs in 25 overs. Thus, Nachimuthu polytechnic college emerged victorious by 63 runs to lift the trophy.
The third and fourth place in the tournament was secured by Sri Krishna polytechnic college and NV Polytechnic college, respectively.
Dr.V.Mohan Sivakumar, HOD of Mechanical Engineering presided the valedictory function and distributed trophies and certificates to the winners.
