Coimbatore: Double delight for Karpagam University as they claimed the trophy in both categories (Men and Women) of district-level Kabaddi tournament 'KPR Rolling Trophy' held at KPR Institutions on Sunday.
Coimbatore: Double delight for Karpagam University as they claimed the trophy in both categories (Men and Women) of district-level Kabaddi tournament 'KPR Rolling Trophy' held at KPR Institutions on Sunday.

Themed 'Kabaddi For Rural Harmony', the two-day tournament was organised by KPR Institutions along with Rotary Coimbatore Central, as part of the ongoing Kovai Vizha.
The event was conceptualized and Coordinated by Deen Dayal Citizen Centre under the Vertical of 'Youth Development and Tribal Affairs'.
District Superintendent of Police, Sujit Kumar was the Chief guest for the valedictory event held on Sunday.
As many as 54 teams including 10 girls team from various part of Coimbatore vied for the trophy that kick-started on Saturday. And, around 700 players including 150 female players took part in the tournament which was conducted under a knockout basis.
In men's category, Karpagam University and Sulur Sports Club teams qualified to the finals whereas in the women's category Karpagam University and Nirmala College for women qualified into the finals.
Men's Finals
Karpagam University dominated the opponents right from the beginning of the game and kept the momentum high to take up the lead 26-13 at the end of the first half. The champions further extended their lead in the second half, as they all-out opposition to get bonus points and at the final whistle, Karpagam University was 51-32 and emerged as champions of the tournament in men's category.

Women's Finals
From the beginning, the match was equally poised, as until Karpagam Rider took a super ride to take three points leads and at the end of first half, the scores were 28-23 in favour of Karpagam University. In the second half of the game, Karpagam University accelerated its strike speed and earned quick points to emerge victorious by 60:49.
The tournament was conducted in association with Tamil Nadu Amateur Kabaddi Association and Coimbatore District Amateur Kabaddi Association. "Best 12 players from boys and girls from this tournament will represent State championship that is to be held on Jan 17,18 and 19 at Karur", told the organisers.
SP, Sujit Kumar, distributed the trophies and cash awards to the winners of the tournament. K.P Ramasamy, Chairman of KPR Institutions, Bala Murugan, DSP, Vighnesh Chaitanya, City Head, Chinmaya Mission Coimbatore, Members of Rotary Coimbatore Central, Coimbatore District Amateur Kabaddi Association and Physical directors of KPR Institutions were present at the valedictory event.
