Coimbatore: District level basketball tournament by Lions Club of Coimbatore Orion along with Rockers Basketball Association for 'Orion Trophy' has kicked off in the City on Thursday.
Coimbatore: District level basketball tournament by Lions Club of Coimbatore Orion along with Rockers Basketball Association for 'Orion Trophy' has kicked off in the City on Thursday.
The tournament will be held at Coimbatore District Basketball Association Court near Nehru Stadium.
Around 60 teams comprising of school student and men are taking part in the tournament which is being conducted on knockout and league basis. The tournament is being conducted under different categories - sub junior, junior men and women.
In the first match, Jaya Bharathi Basketball Club defeated Bharath Premium Basketball Club with a mammoth lead of 77-24. Karthick Raja scored 20 points to lead Jaya Bharathi BBC to victory.
In another match in men's category, STC BC sailed over Wings BBC by 44-39 to qualify into round two. Mukil of STC scored 15 points for his side, while Passion BBC defeated Sarvajana BBC club by 73-71 to march into round two.
The organisers have announced Rs. 50,000 cash prize along with trophies for the winning teams.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by K Venkateshan, M.J.F Sundar, president of Loins club of Coimbatore Orion and M.J.F Jayaprakash, President of Vasavi Club.
