Coimbatore: Double delight for City's N Gaayathri, of PSG College of Arts and Science as she shot two gold medals and set a new record at the Ongoing South Asian Games (SAG) at Kathmandu on Thursday.

Among Indian Shooters dominating at SAG, Coimbatore-based shooter, Gaayathri created history after she set new record of 453.9 points which is 1.7 points more than the previous record in the 50 mts, Rifle 3 position in Women's category.

In individual event, Gaayathri shot 148.7 in Kneeling position, 155.7 in Prone and 149.5 in a Standing position to make a new record.

Unfortunately, Gaayathri's effort will not be considered as a World record, as the South Asian Games' results are not recognised by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) which is the governing body of the Olympic Shooting events in rifle, pistol and shotgun (clay target) disciplines, and of several non-Olympic Shooting sport events.

Representing India at SAG, Gaayathri shot 453.9 points to clinch gold in individual 50 Mts Rifle 3 position category and was part of the team that secured gold.

Earlier, she had secured silver and gold medal at All India Inter-University Shooting Championship held at Faridabad. The City shooter has been consistently winning medals at International competitions. And, earlier this year, she bagged a bronze medal at the Asian Shooting Championship held at Doha. With this medal, she has added one more feather to her cap.

At the ongoing 13th edition of South Asian Games being held at Kathmandu, Nepal, so far India has won 132 medals (63 gold, 45 silver and 24 bronze) followed by Nepal with 103 medals.
