The State level Badminton Championship was held at Valparai for the first time in the indoor stadium at the Residency Club. 48 teams from all over Tamil Nadu participated in the event and displayed their skills.

In the finals, Anandan and Balaji of Team UPS, Kangeyam won the first place. They received a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a shield. The second place was won by Andrew and Arivozhi of Residency Club in Valparai. They won Rs.5,000 and the trophy. The third place was secured by Boopathi and Balu of Team SJS from Palani.
The event was organised by the President of Residency Club Kalaivaanan, Secretary Shaji and Treasurer Shanmugam. A sport event conducted for the first time in Valparai attracted crowds who thoroughly enjoyed the event.
