To commemorate World Disability Day, the Coimbatore District Differently Abled Welfare Association on Thursday organised a sports meet for differently abled students at Nehru Stadium, here in the city, on Thursday.
To commemorate World Disability Day, the Coimbatore District Differently Abled Welfare Association on Thursday organised a sports meet for differently abled students at Nehru Stadium, here in the city, on Thursday.
The event was organised for children with visual disability and hearing disability in which over 600 differently abled children from 28 special schools in the city enthusiastically participated. Various track events and field events like long jump, shotput, cricket ball throw and wheelchair racing were conducted.
The Coimbatore District Collector, K Rajamani flagged off the event. District Disability Welfare Officer, Thangamani and the District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, R P Ravichandran were present at the inauguration.
Prizes were awarded to all the disabled students who participated in the event, with the winners of this event qualifying to take part in the State level event for differently abled children which is to be held on Dec 1, at Chennai.
