Ranveer Singh has been pictured pulling off Kapil Dev’s iconic ‘Natraj’ shot in a still from his upcoming biopic ’83’ about the 1983 World Cup winning squad.

It was the World Cup-winning captain who taught the actor on how to ace the ‘Natraj’ shot. Singh had a few net sessions with the legendary all-rounder and going by the poster, it does seem like the Bollywood star has nailed it.

Dev had an unorthodox batting style. Like Dhoni’s helicopter shot, his famous pull shot that came to be called the ‘Natraj’ is legendary.

It was one of the most devastating shots he played against fast bowlers, and almost every time along the ground, closing the face of the bat while pulling it on one leg.

The impact of the shot was felt by the Zimbabwean bowlers in the Turnbridge Wells match between India and Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup. Arguably one of Dev’s most valuable knocks, it was never televised.

Ranveer Singh’s new image from ’83’ brings that moment to life and it seems like the innings will be recreated on the silver screen

Here’s a video of the all-rounder’s hook shot against England’s Angus Fraser at the Oval in the 3rd Test between Indian and England in 1990, which looks identical to Ranveer’s effort.

83, directed by Kabir Khan, is about the Indian cricket team that brought the Cricket World Cup home in 1983, ending the dominance of West Indies in the tournament.
