Coimbatore: G Niveathitha, studying Class 9 at the Corporation S.R.P Ammaniammal Girls Higher Secondary School made the city proud by bagging a gold medal at the 35th National Junior Athletic Championship held at Guntur, on Sunday.

A determined and committed athlete, Niveathitha took part in the Long Jump event in the Under 14 years category for girls and clinched the gold with 5.33 mts pushing Haryana's Parkishna (5.07mts) behind.
Niveathitha was 12 years old when she started her training at the Kovai Athletic Club under the guidance of Srinivasan and Vishnu, and since then, there has been no looking back for her. She bagged a silver medal at the zonal level competition in 2017.
Though Niveathitha could not make an impact at her first State level meet, her hard work and passion for the sport enabled her to finish at the top in the Long Jump event and second in the triathlon at the Tamil Nadu State Junior Athletic Championship in 2019.

This year, she also took part in the South Zone junior athletic championship and secured a silver in the triathlon. Now, at the National Junior Athletic Championship which is being conducted at Guntur from November 2 onwards, Niveathitha shone with her brilliant performance to bring home a gold.
Krishna Moorthy, Physical Director of SRP Ammanaiammal Girls Higher Secondary School and her coaches Srinivasan and Vishnu congratulated her on her feat and wished her more laurels for the future.
