Coimbatore: With an aim to promote sports among visually challenged people, Tamil Nadu Blind Cricket Association had organised a State level T20 cricket tournament 'Challengers Trophy' at KCT campus on Sunday.
Coimbatore: With an aim to promote sports among visually challenged people, Tamil Nadu Blind Cricket Association had organised a State level T20 cricket tournament 'Challengers Trophy' at KCT campus on Sunday.
As many as 42 visually challenged persons across the State converged in the city to participate in the Challengers Rolling trophy. Based on their degree of blindness participants were divided into three team, Red, Blue and Green.
The tournament was conducted under league basis and best players from this tournament will represent team Tamil Nadu in the National level tournament for Nakesh Trophy that is scheduled to be held in November.
In the tournament held this weekend, team Red emerged champions of the Challengers trophy. Team red defeated Blue team in the finals by 3 wickets.
Batting first team blue were all out for 79 in 12 overs. Following team blue, team Red chased down the target in 13th over with three wickets in hand.
Jebin Kumar of Team red was selected as man of the match for his four wickets in the finals.
Though Indian blind cricket is performing well in international competition, awareness about the game at State level is very less and there are not much facilities available for the players at State level.
Muthusamy, Founder President of Tamil Nadu Blind Cricket Association said that, there is no support from Government for the sport at the State level and urged government to provide necessary support for the game. He also added that, the players are not getting enough facilities which will helpful for these players to get motivated and perform.
He added that as there is no ground for the visually impaired people to practice, they are unable to train well.
