Coimbatore: Coimbatore fighters L G Bharath Vignesh and Vinoth Kumar of Octagon Fighting Club bagged a gold and a silver in the first-ever state level 'Mixed Martial Arts' (MMA) fight organised by the Tamil Nadu Mixed Martial Arts Association at Chennai, on Sunday.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore fighters L G Bharath Vignesh and Vinoth Kumar of Octagon Fighting Club bagged a gold and a silver in the first-ever state level 'Mixed Martial Arts' (MMA) fight organised by the Tamil Nadu Mixed Martial Arts Association at Chennai, on Sunday.
MMA, a popular sport in foreign countries like Brazil, America and Japan has been finding recognition in India too, of late.

Though MMA competitions were being conducted only in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, in India, Tamil Nadu did not lag behind and formed the TNMMAA six months ago, with former DGP Jangid as its President.
Aiming to create more awareness of the sport, TNMMAA organised its first state level MMA combat sport in the state on Sunday, over 50 participants from various parts of Tamil Nadu competed fiercely. Competitions were conducted under different age categories from 52 kilograms to 95 kilograms. L G Bharath Vignesh and Vinoth Kumar were the first MMA fighters from the city to take part in the tournament.

L G Bharath Vignesh of Octogon Fght Club participated in the 52-55 kg category and bagged the gold medal while Vinoth Kumar took part in 55-60 kg category and won the silver medal, to give Coimbatore its first medals in the first state level MMA tournament. The overall championship in the tournament was secured by the team from Chennai.
