The World Silambattam Championships were held in Penang, Malaysia from October 2 to 6. Over 300 players from more than 10 countries participated in the Silambattam Championship. The competition was held based on Otrai Silambam, Irattai Silambam, Otrai Surul Veechu, Irattai Surul Veechu, Man Kombu, Kambati Padam, Vaalveechu and more.
The team from Puliyakulam Silambalaya on behalf of Coimbatore District and led by Coordinator Selvakumar won 8 Gold, 3 Silver and 8 Bronze medals in the competition, with a total tally of 19 medals.

Returning with triumph, the players were welcomed at the railway station on behalf of the Coimbatore City Police. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cedric Manuel, Ramanathapuram Police Inspector Lata, Assistant Inspector Gnanasekaran and Chief of Police, Anand lauded the players with shawls, bouquets and welcomed them back warmly.
Police Inspector, Lata stated, "These students are undergoing training at the Children's Council within the Ramanathapuram Police Station limits. Everyone is happy with their success. While they participated in the Asian competitions, we encouraged them on behalf of the Police here. As they have now won on the international stage, as per the discussion with officials, a felicitation ceremony will be held soon."
