Coimbatore: To commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, Seeshan Charitable Trust and Karunya Deemed University jointly organised a mega event for the tribal population of Thondamuthur block on Wednesday, at the Karunya University Sports Complex.
Coimbatore: To commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, Seeshan Charitable Trust and Karunya Deemed University jointly organised a mega event for the tribal population of Thondamuthur block on Wednesday, at the Karunya University Sports Complex.

About 18 teams enthusiastically participated in the one-day tournament. The event was inaugurated by Samuel Paul Dhinakaran, with Dr. Shilpa Samuel lighting the Olympic torch at SEESHA Hospital which was carried by the competing captains who then lit the torch at the Kabaddi court.
Of the eight teams vying for the trophy Mathuvarayapuram MRP team emerged as champions of the tournament while the second and third places were secured by NSC Nallurpathi team and JM Nallurpathi team, respectively.
Samuel Paul Dhinakaran distributed cash prizes and trophies to the winners of the Kabaddi tournament. Alongside the Kabaddi tournament, a cooking competition for women was conducted in which tribal women prepared food using millets and grains. More than 50 women participated in the competition in which Mayilal from Mundanthurai won the first prize, Poonmani from Sadivayalpathi won the second prize and Radha from Singapathi won the third prize. Dr. Shilpa Samuel presented the prizes to the winners of the competition.
Dr. Elijah, the Registrar of Karunya Deemed University, Advocate Easwaradhas, Trustee SEESHA, Dr. Samuel Thomas , Chief Operating Officer, SEESHA, Dr. Caleb Rajan, Director of Physical Education, Karunya Deemed University, Manimegalai Zonal Deputy BDO and Advocate Jaikumar were present at the event.
