Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna MHSS emerged champions of the Junior Super Kings T20 Tournament of the Coimbatore phase by defeating defending champions Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidhyalaya MHSS by 7 wickets on Thursday, at PSG IMS ground.
Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna MHSS emerged champions of the Junior Super Kings T20 Tournament of the Coimbatore phase by defeating defending champions Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidhyalaya MHSS by 7 wickets on Thursday, at PSG IMS ground.
The top eight school teams in the city vied for the trophy which kicked off on Sep 30. It was Sri Ramakrishna and Sri Jayendra Saraswathi who made their way to the finals of the tournament.
In the finals held today, the defending champions batted first. Unlike in the other games, the Jayendra Saraswathi batsmen did not find it easy to score runs, and the bowlers from Ramakrishna MHSS restricted the defending champions for 77 in 20 overs.
Chasing the tiny total, Ramakrishna batsmen kept their focus and executed some responsible batting to chase down the target in the 16th over of the match to emerge champions of the tournament. C Senthil Kumar of Ramakrishna MHSS was selected as the Man of the Finals while S Sakthivel of RKS was selected as the Best Bowler of the tournament. The Best Batsman of the tournament was awarded to B Sachin, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi and K Sibi Yenthal of Sri Ramakrishna who was awarded the Player of the tournament for his consistent and excellent performance throughout the tournament.

The winners of the Coimbatore phase is qualified to take part in the Phase 2 of the Junior Super Kings T20 tournament that is to be held at Tirunelveli. T K Ramakrishnan, Vice President, The Coimbatore District Cricket Association along with S.Suresh Kumar and K Mahalingam, Hon. Joint Secretaries and The Coimbatore District Cricket Association awarded prizes to the winners of the tournament.
The 6th edition of the tournament sponsored by The Muthoot Group and supported by TNCA kicked off on Sep 30 in the city. The tournament aims to provide a platform for the school kids to exhibit their cricketing skills and keep driving their dreams to reach the pinnacle in this sport.
