7th edition of The Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon to host 16000 athletes

Coimbatore: The 7th edition of City's Premier event 'Coimbatore Marathon' is around the corner, as 16000 runners have registered to take part in the event which is scheduled on October 6, said the organisers at a press meet held today.

Coimbatore: The 7th edition of City's Premier event 'Coimbatore Marathon' is around the corner, as 16000 runners have registered to take part in the event which is scheduled on October 6, said the organisers at a press meet held today. 



The marathon is being organised by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF) along with Coimbatore Runners and Show Space events to support cancer patients and their family. 

Recognised by the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association and Coimbatore District Athletic Association, the marathon comprises of three events 21.1km, 10km and 5km run and walk.



The organisers said that "Bringing more pride to the marathon, a 92-year-old veteran athlete in male category and 84-year-old in female category will take part in this year marathon. Athletes from over 17 states, Union Territories and 194 cities are taking part in the marathon in which over 2.5 lakh cash prizes will be presented to the winners."

Speaking on the occasion, S. Murali, Business Head - Tamil Nadu & Chennai. Vodafone Idea Limited said, "Vodafone Idea is privileged to be associated with the 7th edition of Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon. This association has helped us serve the community by supporting the efforts in spreading Cancer awareness."

He added that with increasing registrations every year, it is evident the cancer awareness message has reached the masses.  



"At Vodafone Idea, we are passionate about health, safety and well-being of our employees, stakeholders and society in general.  We dedicate this marathon to the enduring determination of human spirit over cancer", opined Vodafone's Business Head - Tamil Nadu & Chennai. 

Similarly, Dr. Balaji, Managing Trustee Coimbatore Cancer Foundation added that, "Once again, we are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm exhibited by the people of Kovai in registering for the marathon.  Many of the runners have been with us from the start. They have motivated us and given us an enormous responsibility to help and serve those afflicted by cancer and other chronic diseases."

Dr. Balaji added that CCF's initiative in palliative care has gone beyond cancer and now helps those with chronic diseases too, thus lessening their suffering and improving their quality of life, during their last days.
