Coimbatore: The four-day South Zone Hockey Tournament for CBSE Schools commenced today at the Sachidananda Jothi Niketan International School at Kallar in Mettupalayam. Poet Kavidasan, fondly known as Sindhanai Kavignar inaugurated the tournament held in the school ground.

Over 500 students of 36 schools from the Southern states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka and the Northern state Maharashtra are participating in this tournament being held for students between 17 to 19 years of age.

The tournament has a knock out and league match for girls and boys under different categories. This first match today was a hockey match for the Under 19 men's team between Maharishi Mandir School from Hosur to Sagar International School from Perundurai. The tournament is for four days and will end on October 3. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winning team on the final day.
