Coimbatore : The long wait of Coimbatore cricket enthusiasts and players has come to an end on Sunday, as Former ICC Chairman, N. Srinivasan inaugurated Coimbatore's first international cricket ground here at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Sciences on Sunday.
Coimbatore : The long wait of Coimbatore cricket enthusiasts and players has come to an end on Sunday, as Former ICC Chairman, N. Srinivasan inaugurated Coimbatore's first turf wicket cricket ground here at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Sciences on Sunday.

The 73 mts ground features separate pavilion for teams and with rooms for umpires, third umpires, match referees, officials of the anti-corruption unit and many more.

The pavilion is built on a par with the latest international standards.

Speaking at the inauguration, N. Srinivasan commended Coimbatore District Cricket Association (CDCA) for their dedication and Sri Ramakrishna educational trust for providing the space for construction of such a top class cricket ground in the city.
"Coimbatore being the second largest city next to Chennai has been producing quality players to Tamil Nadu. This ground in the city can be helpful to groom young cricketers in the city, as they can make use of the infrastructure here" he added.

He stated that, "The ground will be fully utilised for the development of both Tamil Nadu and District cricket. TNCA is planning to conduct its board matches in this newly inaugurated ground. If flood lights can be placed, it will be helpful to conduct day night matches and TNPL".

The ground features a good grass covered 73mts outfield with good quality turf wickets laid by BCCI curator along with pavilion all in international standards. The ground includes six wickets net complex for players to practice. This practice nets will be very useful, if TNPL is conducted here.
Commenting on TNPL, N. Srinivasan opined that TNPL has helped them find many talents from districts. "Since it's inception, it has been a meaningful pathway for players to reach great heights in the game. Every year, TNPL is producing players from TN to represent Indian Premier league. This is a huge success of Tamil Nadu Premier League", he said.

He concluded his speech by wishing Tamil Nadu state senior cricket players for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Tamil Nadu state senior cricket players who are currently in Ranji Trophy camp were also present at the inauguration.
Others present at the inauguration were D. Lakshminarayasamy, President of Coimbatore District Cricket Association, S Gouthaman, Secretary and joint secretaries, Suresh Kumar and Mahalingam and other members of CDCA.
