Coimbatore: Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya MHSS triumphed in the South India level inter-school cricket tournament for 'Sri Shakthi Super Trophy' as they clinched a thumping 7 wickets win over R.K.Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam HSS in the finals at Sri Sakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology here on Wednesday.
Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology organised a state-level inter School cricket tournament in which best teams across the state vied for the top honours and the trophy.
In a highly competitive tournament at Sri Shakthi, Coimbatore teams made it to the finals.
R.K. Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam HSS and Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya MHSS entered the finals that held on Wednesday. R.K Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam HSS batted first and scored 83 in their 20 overs.
With an easy target the champions showcased their skills in the finals to defeat R.K.Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam HSS by 7 wickets to take the trophy home.
P. Nirmal Kumar of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya MHSS, Coimbatore was selected as man of the match for his all-round performance in the finals while Best wicketkeeper of the tournament was awarded to V. Rahul of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya MHSS Coimbatore.
Best Bowler of the tournament awarded to G.K. Balasubramani of R.K. Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam HSS while Best Batsman of the tournament was presented to N.D. Hari Shankar of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya MHSS, Coimbatore B. Sachin of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya MHSS Coimbatore was selected as the best players of the tournament.
Cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh was presented to the winners, while Rs.50000 was given to the runner- up of the tournament. The third and fourth placed teams were presented with 30000 and 20,000 respectively.
Dr.S. Thangavelu, Chairman Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology, T. Deepan Thangavelu, Secretary Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology and S. Vikram Senthil, Managing Trustee R.K. Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam HSS and Junior Selection Committee Chairman, Coimbatore District Cricket Association gave away the awards to the Prize winners.
Scores: R.K.Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam HSS 83/5 in 20 overs. (N.Thikish 37, G.K. Balasubramaniam 16, B.Sachin 2/10, P. Nirmal Kumar 2/22) lost to Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya MHSS 84/3 from 17.4 overs. (N.D. Hari Shankar 36 not out, P. Nirmal kumar 24 not out, G.K. Balasubramani 2/18).
