Coimbatore: To commemorate 'Fit India Movement' launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, PSG institutions on Thursday organised a Walkathon at their college premises.
Coimbatore: To commemorate 'Fit India Movement' launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, PSG institutions on Thursday organised a Walkathon at their college premises.

Over 500 students and staff from PSG College of Technology and Polytechnic took part in the 3.5 km marathon which was flagged off by Dr. K Prakasan, Principal in-charge of PSG college of Technology.

The Walkathon started from the grounds of PSG Tech and moved toward ladies hostel, PSG medical college campus and concluded at PSG Tech ground. The participants covered around 5000 steps in the walkathon.
Following walkathon, the students witnessed the live speech delivered by the Prime Minister on Doordarshan Television channel. After his address, Principal Incharge, Dr.K.Prakasan administered the “Fitness Pledge” for the students and staff members.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nation-wide “Fit India Movement” on August 29 and appealed to every citizen to remain healthy and fit. The event was launched at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi at 10 am.
On the launch of the programme, PM Modi launched a “Fitness Logo” and a “Fitness Pledge” stating, “I promise to myself that I will devote time for physical activity and sports every day and I will encourage my family members and neighbours to be physically fit and make India a fit nation,”.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) asked higher educational institutes to make necessary arrangements to view PM Modi’s address on the launch of the movement on Thursday. As a part of the fitness pledge, UGC has asked students and staff to walk at least 10,000 steps every day and follow it up in their daily routine.
