Coimbatore: City lad and young National Chess Champion, G Akash who recently clinched a National Championship title at Ahmedabad states that his ultimate dream is to achieve the Grand Master title.

G Akash, a Class 4 student of S.E.S School in the city who has played chess since 2016 is being trained under Dhanasekar, his coach for the last three years. The young lad inspired by his brother took up the sport seriously and has been been participating in tournaments since Class 1. Since 2016, he has had over 30 championship titles under his belt and 1600 rating points. To achieve the Grand Master title which is his dream, Akash needs just 900 points. Recently, he participated in the 33rd National Chess Championship (Under 9 years) held at Ahmedabad and scored 9.5 points in 11 games. With 9 wins and 3 draws in 11 rounds, the championship was his.

Having won the National Championship title, Akash is now eligible to take part in the Asian Championship which is to be held later this year. Though he is very young, Akash is known for his determination and hard work. "It is his hard work that helped him clinch the national medal," says Govindarajan, father of Akash. He also credits Akash's coach Dhanasekar for the lad's astounding record thus far. Earlier, Akash also won the State Championship held at Chennai which provided him an opportunity to take part in the National Championship in which over 250 chess players participated.
