G Akash, a Class 4 student of S.E.S School in the city who has played chess since 2016 is being trained under Dhanasekar, his coach for the last three years. The young lad inspired by his brother took up the sport seriously and has been been participating in tournaments since Class 1. Since 2016, he has had over 30 championship titles under his belt and 1600 rating points. To achieve the Grand Master title which is his dream, Akash needs just 900 points. He also credits Akash's coach Dhanasekar for the lad's astounding record thus far. Earlier, Akash also won the State Championship held at Chennai which provided him an opportunity to take part in the National Championship in which over 250 chess players participated.
