Coimbatore: Bala Dhaneshwar's heroic performance (18 points) led Indian bank to clinch a thrilling victory over Indian Air Force in the semi final of 55th All India basketball tournament for PSG Trophy ongoing here here at the PSG Indoor sports complex on Monday.
Though Indian bank started the tournament with a defeat, the boys from Chennai found smart ways to take their team to the finals. Playing semi finals against Indian Air Force, Indian bank were right on the top from the beginning with a 4 point lead at the end of first quater.
Going with the flow, Indian bank continued to score points from the start of the second quarter. It was not easy for Indian bank, as IAF have a tough fight. The three pointers from Joginder singh and Hemant Sheoran increased the heat of the game.
Though IAF scored few three pointers, Indian bank managed to maintain the lead and brought the scores to 39-41, at the end of first half of the game.
The game was equally poised, both the semi finalist were light on their feet keeping the scorer busy, as both the teams had scored 21points each in the third quarter. While, Indian bank were two points lead at the end of third quarter (60-62).
First few minutes of the last quater was dominated by IAF scoring five points in the first three minutes and went over Indian bank's points in the third minute, as scores were 67-66 in favour of IAF.
Hariram's three points in the last quarter helped them to come back in the game and kept calling for points. Bala's magic in the last few minutes booked a spot for Indian bank in the finals. Indian bank defeated IAF by 81-77.
