United and PSGR Krishnammal College triumphs in YMCA Trophy

Coimbatore : All men's team of United Basketball Club and women's team from PSGR Krishnammal College for Women have lifted the 65th YMCA basketball tournament for S. Venkatakrishnan trophy here at YMCA court on Saturday.


Coimbatore : All men's team of United Basketball Club and women's team from PSGR Krishnammal College for Women have lifted the 65th YMCA basketball tournament for S. Venkatakrishnan trophy here at YMCA court on Saturday.

Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) organised a District level basketball tournament in which around 80 teams from the city vied for the trophy. The tournament was conducted under four categories- mini boys, junior boys, men and women, under knockout basis.



The tournament was inaugurated by Sudhakar Paul, Chairman of Games Committee of YMCA on June 29. In the mini boys category, Young Blood basketball club lifted the trophy, while RKS won the finals in junior boys category.

In the men's finals, United basketball Club and the host YMCA clashed for the trophy in which victor had a complete control over the game from the beginning and clinched victory by a 6 points difference to lift the trophy. 

United basketball Club defeated YMCA by 88:94 Ramulu of United club scored 29 points for his side.

Similarly in the womens category PSGR Krishnammal college played against PSG CAS and defeated them by 75-59 to emerge as champions in women's section. 

Kowsika for PSGR Krishnammal scored 15 points to help his side to victory.

Cash prize of Rs. 10000 was presented to the winners in men and women categories, while for mini boys and junior boys Rs. 8000 was presented to the winners. 

G Selvaraj, President of Coimbatore District Basketball Association was the chief guest to the valedictory function. He away trophies and cash prizes to the winners of the tournament.
