Coimbatore : Even as District players were a huge draw at the 4th edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League TNPL), Coimbatore hogged the limelight with 21 cricketers from the city in the draw to play for different teams in this year's edition of TNPL.

At a media briefing held today at Sri Aarvee Hotel in the city, R I Palani, the Joint Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association highlighted that Coimbatore has been a premier city next only to Chennai in producing players for the State and has now produced 21 players for this edition of TNPL. "Since TNPL focuses mainly on players from Districts, this year there are many new finds like Mohammed Ashik. The spotlight will be on the players from the Districts since they have been making steady progress over the years," he added.

Commenting on the SNR College ground, Palani said, "Since the ground is almost ready, the inspection by the BCCI will be done in a few months. After the inspection, the ground will be ready for TNPL. Probably for the next TNPL, Coimbatore will be one of the venues. Once it is ready, Coimbatore will be the premier venue for we have planned to conduct 50 percent of the TNPL matches, here in Coimbatore."

R Prasanna, the former Tamil Nadu Ranji Captain highlighted, "N Jagadeesan as wicket keeper, left arm pacer Natarajan and spinner Varun Chakravathy have been the successful stories of TNPL." He also pointed out that the TNPL has spawned a series of T20 tournaments in the State resulting in a steady influx of players during trials that most franchisees conduct before the season. These local tournaments help the franchisees who then have a bigger pool of players to choose from."

Others present at the press meet were Dakshinamoorthy, Senior manager, Brand Sharon Ply, Srihari Manohar, General Manager, Lyca Productions and D Laksminarayanaswamy, President of the Coimbatore District Cricket Association.
