Coimbatore: Sittruli Foundation along with Ganga Hospital is organising the 'Run for Wheels Marathon' on July 21 to raise funds to support Para Sports persons in the city.

The Sittruli Foundation is working on developing Para Sports in Coimbatore and is currently involved in wheelchair basketball training. The 'Run for Wheels Marathon' is to raise funds for procuring sports wheelchairs for players being trained at the Ganga Spine Injury Rehabilitation Center in Kavundampalayam.

The Marathon will have three categories - 10 km, 5 km and 3 km and a free run for participants aged above 65. Following the marathon, there will be an Exhibition Wheelchair Basketball match at the Ganga Spine Injury Rehabilitation Center.

"The fund raiser will be used directly to purchase a Sports Wheelchair (Rs.35,000/chair). If you feel that you could get us a wheelchair on your own or by involving your circle, we would be the happiest knowing it would serve the purpose of 70 participants in this marathon," added Guna, a member of Sittruli Foundation.

Medals, T-Shirts, E-Certificates, Tree Saplings, breakfast and cash prizes will be provided to participants for the marathon. Those interested or who know others would be interested can register at https://www.sittruli.org/event/run-for-wheels-marathon-2019-event-2nd/ or register through the WhatsApp No. 94898 20099.

Sittruli Foundation was formed when a bunch of friends, sport enthusiasts, colleagues and unique-minded people were inspired by the highly-motivated and energetic differently abled sportsmen and women in society. The Foundation began with volunteering at Paralympic events, and slowly moved on to create more opportunities for the differently abled in their sports and education careers.
