Coimbatore: Mohammad Salahuddin, a 25-year old athlete did Coimbatore proud by clinching gold in the triple jump event, at the 29th International Athletics Championship organised by the International Association of Athletic Federation and the Kazakhstan Association of Athletic Federation, on Sunday.

The young triple jumper won the gold with his personal best of 16.64 in the Championship in which over 700 participants from 28 countries participated at the Central Stadium, Almaty. About 24 athletes from India took part in the Championship.
Earlier, Salahuddin had won gold at the Junior South Asian Athletic Federation Championship in 2014 and also participated in the Junior Asian Championships. He is the first athlete from Coimbatore at the World University Games in 2015, representing Bharathiar University.

On the second day of the Championship, the Indian athletes won four medals including two golds in the track and field events, while on the first day of the Meet, Indians won six medals including three gold taking the tally to 10 medals, in two days (5 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze).
