Sania Mirza-Barbora Strycova crowned women’s doubles champions at Pan Pacific Open

India’s Sania Mirza and her partner Barbora Strycova from Czech Republic produced a straight sets win over China’s Chen Liang and Zhaoxuan Yang 6-1, 6-1 in the final to win the women’s doubles titles at Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Saturday.

Playing their third tournament together, Sania and Strycova have earlier won the Cincinnati Open last month by beating Martina Hingis and Coco Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-4 in the final.

The current tournament in Tokyo is Sania’s 40th doubles title win and third in Tokyo. She had earlier won the same title with Cara Black twice.

Sania and Strycova had defeated unseeded pair of Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Spain’s Maria Jose Martina Sanchez 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in semi-finals in Tokyo on Friday.

The pair has played one Grand Slam together, the US Open last month but suffered a defeat in the quarter-finals. Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic defeated them in straight sets in New York.
