Coimbatore: Alvernia Matriculation Higher Secondary School triumphed in the 8th State level Alvernia basketball tournament for Junior girls held at the school here on Friday.
Coimbatore: Alvernia Matriculation Higher Secondary School triumphed in the 8th State level Alvernia basketball tournament for Junior girls held at the school here on Friday.

The host Alvernia stood undefeated throughout the tournament and emerged as champions in the under 13 category. Following Alvernia, Holy Cross, Thoothukudi with two wins in the league stage secured the second place and St. Joseph from Salem emerged third.

Anetha Daisy Evangeline of Alvernia was elected as best player of the tournament.

In U-19 year category, St. Joseph, Chennai won in all three matches in the league stage to take the trophy home. While the host in a small slip against St. Joseph emerged runners of the tournament and SDAT (Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu), Tiruvannamalai secured third place.
Krithika of St. Joseph Chennai was selected as best player in her category.

Dr.P Krishna Kumar, CEO and Secretary of Nehru Group of Institutions and Ananthalakshmi, Rtd. District Inspector of Physical Education were the chief guests and presented the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
