Representing Tamil Nadu, Shyamala, a third-year B.Sc student of Ooty Govt. Arts College won the women's category, while Lokeshwaran of the same college, a first-year Computer Science student won the men's division. Tamil Selvan, a third-year M.Sc Zoology student, also from Govt.Arts College in Ooty bagged the third place.
On behalf of the sports fraternity in TN, the students urged the Central Government to convince the Tamil Nadu Government to promote Taekwondo in the State. Taekwondo or Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast-kicking techniques. Taekwondo training classes are held all across the world to instill discipline while also learning self-defence. It has become mandatory for police and military personnel to learn Taekwondo as part of their training.
