Coimbatore : City's Young athlete S Pavithra, has created a new record by stopping the clock at 56 minutes and 41 seconds in the 10 km 'Race Walking' at the 92nd Tamil Nadu State Senior Athletic Championship at Anna Stadium Trichy.
Coimbatore : City's Young athlete S Pavithra, has created a new record by stopping the clock at 56 minutes and 41 seconds in the 10 km 'Race Walking' at the 92nd Tamil Nadu State Senior Athletic Championship at Anna Stadium Trichy.
Two years back, Pavithra, started her career in athletics career under coach Vairavanathan of Genesis sports foundation. Right from the beginning, she secured her spot in 'Race Walking' by taking part in various State and National level sports meet.
Pavithra's perseverance and skill helped her secure silver in her first state meet (Junior state meet) in 2017 followed by gold at State meet in Madurai, the same year. She set a new record at Youth State meet at Chennai and also finished in top 10 in three national meets.

This time, City's Pavithra set a new record in Trichy by breaking the previous record set by C Mahalakshmi (57.18) in 2011 at Nehru Stadium Coimbatore.
"Before two years, I started my career as long distance runner but my coach suggested me to take race walk and that turned out to be a turning point in my career. I emerged successful from my very first sports meet. For my debut race walk, I din't have much time to practice, yet I won a silver. My victory boosted my confidence and motivated to work hard", said Pavithra.
She credited her coach and parents for their support.
Similarly, M Sathish Kumar of Genesis Sports Foundation secured Gold medal in 5km with a timing of 15.14 and Victor Samuvel of Genesis sports Foundation clinched gold in 3km Steeple chase with a timing of 9.41.
