Coimbatore: The Karpagam University Kabaddi team triumphed in the state level Labaddi tournament organised by the Thangavelu Memorial Sports Club in Sathyamangalan on June 8 and 9.
Coimbatore: The Karpagam University Kabaddi team triumphed in the state level Labaddi tournament organised by the Thangavelu Memorial Sports Club in Sathyamangalan on June 8 and 9.
About 96 teams from various districts of Tamil Nadu vied for the trophy in which Karpagam University remained undefeated, to lift the seven-feet tall trophy and walk away with a cash prize of Rs.20,000.
Karpagam University defeated the Erode Kabaddi team in their first match by 10-35 and Dolphin Kabaddi Club Tirupur by 34-8 to enter the semi-finals of the tournament. In the semi-final, the champions clashed with home team (Sathyamangalam Kabaddi Club) and sealed a victory over them by 10-17, to qualify for the finals.
On the flip side, K M Kabaddi club from Gopichettipalayam were at full throttle to enter the finals. Karpagam University boys kept their momentum and brilliance to defeat KMKC by 25-18 to emerge champions.
Prakash, Vignesh, Thirugnanam, Shankar, Jagatheesh, Prashanth, Bharath, Sujin, Virumandi, Gnanavel, Siva and Marimuthu were the Kabaddi players representing Karpagam University. The Chairman of Karpagam University, Dr. R Vasanthakumar, K Murugaiah, CEO, Dr. S Sudalaimuthu, Vice Chancellor, Dr R Sundararajan, Registrar and Physical Director, Dr. S Suthakar congratulated the winners.
