Coimbatore: Abinaya, a Class 12 student of National Model School in the city became the first skater from Coimbatore to take part in international competitions in the Roller Derby category.

The self-taught extremely skilled girl from Coimbatore has been selected to represent team India in the upcoming International competition 'World Roller Games 2019' in June at Barcelona, Spain. Inspired from the skating demo held at her school when she was studying Class 5, Abinaya decided to take up the sport as her career. Thereon, Abinaya was very determined in mastering skating and won several medals and championships at the district and state levels.
Abinaya impressed the selectors at Delhi with her consistent performance at district, state and national level competitions. The camp for the India roller skating team is scheduled form June 15 at Greno Banked track rink, Noida UP.
"I have been in skating for six years and have won six championships at the district level competitions and six championships in state level competitions, and now I am preparing myself to compete at the international arena. My ultimate goal is to take part in the Olympics for India," stated an elated Abinaya.
