TNCA U-19 cricket tournament: Usman Khan scalps 6 wickets, Kanchipuram on a roll

Coimbatore : The Kanchipuram lads thrashed Theni to register their third consecutive victory in the first round of the TNCA U-19 inter district cricket tournament held at the PSG IMS C on Wednesday.

Coimbatore : The Kanchipuram lads thrashed Theni to register their third consecutive victory in the first round of the TNCA U-19 inter district cricket tournament held at the PSG IMS C on Wednesday.

After winning their first match against Coimbatore, Kanchipuram sealed consecutive victories over the other two teams in the pool very easily. Continuing their winning streak, aided by the duo Salman Usman Khan and Shyam Ganesh who destroyed the Theni batsmen sharing 10 wickets between them, Kanchipuram bundled out their opponents for 43 runs in the 18th over.

Thereon, Kanchipuram chased down the target in the 6th over itself with 10 wickets remaining, thus registering their third win and qualifying for the next round of the tournament.

Scores: Theni - 43 In 17.1 overs (Usman Khan 6/25, P Shyam Ganesh 4/18) lost to Kancheepuram 47/0 in 5.3 overs.

In another match at the IMS A grounds, Coimbatore defeated Vellore by 7 wickets. Coimbatore bowled first and restricted the opponents for 105 in 28 overs and then chased down the target in 23 overs.

Scores: Vellore 105 in 28 overs (J Naveen 56, R Ashwin 5/27) lost to Coimbatore 106/3 in 22.5 overs (T Vijay Abimanyu 65).
