Coimbatore: PKR college of Arts and Science from Gopichettipalayam emerged as champions of the International Women's day, All India Volleyball tournament organised by Rural education and sports development foundation here at the Corporation Volleyball Court from May 27.
Coimbatore: PKR college of Arts and Science from Gopichettipalayam emerged as champions of the International Women's day, All India Volleyball tournament organised by Rural education and sports development foundation here at the Corporation Volleyball Court from May 27.

To commemorate the International Women's Day, a volleyball tournament was organised with six best teams from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh here in the city. The tournament was conducted under league basis and top four teams played semi finals.

PKR and SRM were the teams qualified to the finals held on Friday, in which PKR from Gobicetyipalayam defeated SRM, Chennai quite comfortably by 3-1 to lift the trophy.
The match was equally poised and both teams fought hard, at last it was PKR team who sealed the opportunities that came their way and defeated SRM in the final clash.

Match: PKR (3) defeated SRM (1), (25:11,16:25, 25:12, 25:16)
In the looser finals, St. Mary's women from Kerala sailed over GKM Volleyball foundation by 2:0 to secure third place in the tournament.

Match : STMARYS (2) vs GKM (0) (25:18,30:28).
D.P. Ezhil Mathi from SRM and Preethi from PRK were selected as outstanding players of the tournament.
Ravichandran, Chief Patron, Coimbatore District Volleyball Association and Managing Director of Sun Transport was the Chief guest. He distributed cash prizes and trophies to the winners of the tournament.
Others present in the prize distribution were Gomathi Manivasagam, IRS, Assistant Commissioner of Income tax, Venkatapathy, General secretary of CDVA and Nanda Kumar, Ex president, Indian Chamber of commerce and industry, Coimbatore.
