Coimbatore : To commemorate International Women's day, Rural education and sports development Foundation is organising an South India level volleyball tournament for Women at Corporation Volleyball Court in the City from Monday.
The tournament which will be conducted under league and knockout basis will feature six best teams from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. V.S. Kumar, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax, Coimbatore inaugurated the tournament.on Monday.
On the first day of the tournament, PKR College of Arts and sciences (Gopichettipalayam), St. Mary's college (Wayanad), GKM volleyball Foundation (Chennai) and St.Joseph College (Thrissur) played their first league match.
In the first match between PKR and St. Mary's, Girls from Gopichettipalayam, they sealed Kerala girls by 3:1 (19:25, 25:16, 25:23, 26:24). Even after losing first set of the match, PKR team pounced back in the game and went over St. Mary's in the second and third sets. Thus clinching an easy win in the match.
In another match between St.Joseph and GKM, GKM Volleyball Foundation registered their first win of the tournament by defeating St Joseph by 3:1 margin (25:15, 19:25, 25:23, 25:16).
