36th Youth National Basketball Championship: Tamil Nadu girls team beats Rajasthan to enter finals

Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu entered the final in the girls category of the 36th Youth National Basketball Championship as they defeated Rajasthan by 23 points here at PSG Tech Indoor sports complex on Monday.

Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu entered the final in the girls category of the 36th Youth National Basketball Championship as they defeated Rajasthan by 23 points here at PSG Tech Indoor sports complex on Monday.

The host looked very dominant in the first two quarters of the game. Though Tamil Nadu girls started the game slow and completed the first quarter only with a one point lead, as the opponent were tough and did not give chance for the host.



In the second quarter of the game, Tamil Nadu accelerated at the right time and kept calling for points and increased their lead to 10 points at the end of first half. (Tamil Nadu 27 - Rajasthan 17)

Third quarter was even better for the host in which they extended their lead to 25 points and restricted the opponent to score only 14 points in that quarter. At the end of the third quarter Tamil Nadu was 46 and Rajasthan 21 points. 



Tamil Nadu changed their game plan to defence in the last quarter of the game which held the opponent from scoring points. Tamil Nadu girls registered an easy 57-34 win and entered into the finals in style.

Match : Tamil Nadu (57) beats Rajasthan (34). 

Top Scorers : Tamilnadu - Sathya (25), Sandhiya (10). Rajasthan - Rashi Khotani (10), Manvi Srivastava (10).



In another semi finals in girls category Kerala carried their form in the semi finals as they clinched nail baiting 70-74 victory over the defending champions Punjab.

Girls from Kerala were right on the top from the beginning to the end of the whistle from the referee. Though Kerala lost their momentum a bit in the third quarter, Annin Mary, the star performer of the team, once again turned the match their way.



Match: Kerala (74) beat Punjab (70).

Top Scorers - Kerala - Jesley (20), Annmary Zachar ( 30) P - Unjab - Harsimrankaur (39), Kavya Singla (13).

In the boys category, its Kerala again who showed their skill and booked their spot in the finals. Playing against the Trophy holders (Rajasthan), Kerala had total control over the game. In a equally poised match, Kerala striked at the last few minutes to take few points lead to enter into the finals of the tournament.

Match: Kerala (65) defeated Rajasthan (62) 

Top Scorers : Kerala - Baby (10), Prince (21), Kothulil (16). Rajasthan - Kumawat (16), Sherhawat (27).

In the second semi final match between Haryana and Karnataka, boys from Haryana qualified to the finals as they defeated Kartanaka in a close contest 80-72.



The finals of the tournament is scheduled on Tuesday. The first finals will be at 3pm between Kerala and Tamil Nadu (girls) and at 4:30 pm Haryana and Kerala will clash for the trophy.
