Coimbatore : Prabhu who has been offering free basketball coaching to Government school students opines that the "pay to play" concept should be totally eliminated so that every student can get a chance to play."
Recently, Prabhu had organised a free summer coaching camp for Government school students in which 45 students were selected and offered a free 21-day camp where players were taught basics and techniques.

Prabhu who has been involved in basketball coaching in a Government school at Raja Street says he has produced a bunch of quality players to represent district level and state level players in his six years of coaching. "Students being trained here are from economically backward families and some cannot even afford to buy their sportswear. So, I decided to provide them sportswear and even bus fares so that they can also play the game," reveals Prabhu.

In his initial years of coaching, Prabhu used to work as a basketball coach in a private school just to meet the sportswear expenses for his students. Offering quality basketball training for free in the city, he has been instrumental in producing some state level and national level players too. In that list, Sri Lakshmi is the new sensation who has been showcasing her skill and determination in the game. She is the first player from Prabhu's camp to represent Mini India (Under 13) to play in international competitions.

Hailing from a poor economical background, Sri Lakshmi credits her coach Prabhu for her achievements in the sports. "Starting my career in Class 6, I knew nothing about the sport when my physical education teacher selected me for this game, only because I was tall. Later, I understood the game and started applying the techniques which paved way for my development," says Sri Lakshmi. She also added, "Prabhu Sir made a big impact on my game and now I am here only because of him."
