Coimbatore: V Ajith Kumar, a final year commerce student at Karpagam University here in the city has been picked in the auction by the Tamil Thalaivas management to play in the Pro Kabaddi League.

Since the start of Pro Kabaddi Season One, the league has been a great platform for players to renew their interest in the once-fading sport of Kabaddi. Many rural players who were playing Kabaddi locally and on the streets have come under the spotlight now along with Kabaddi legends. The pro Kabaddi league is said to have almost resurrected the sport which was on the brink of extinction.

Ajith Kumar, a native of Karur district started his kabaddi career with friends playing on the streets and participating in the local Kabaddi tournamenta. Perceiving Ajith's innate talent for the sport, Ajith's brother enrolled him in a coaching centre. "It was in my Class 11 that I started to play Kabaddi professionally. With my trainer's guidance and my hard work, I started representing my District and then the State.

In 2016, I was selected to play in the Junior Nationals for the very first time," recalls Ajith. "That was a great opportunity for me to expose myself and now with Pro Kabaddi i can use the opportunity to better myself. My journey was not smooth, and it was very hard for me to reach this level," revealed Ajith.

Ajith's day starts at 4:30 am everyday in the Kabaddi court. He arrives at the court an hour prior to practice time and practices till 8 am before attending his college classes. In the evening, he practices for four hours. His hard work and sincerity, and commitment to the sport has paved the way for his achievement. "Playing in the Kabaddi World Cup for India is my ultimate goal. This league will help me achieve my dream and I will work hard," says a determined Ajith.
