Coimbatore: The students of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women who won medals in national and state-level tournaments during the academic year 2018-19 were felicitated by the college management.
Coimbatore: The students of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women who won medals in national and state-level tournaments during the academic year 2018-19 were felicitated by the college management.
A release from the college stated, "Many students talented in sports come from various villages, cities and other states, unable to excel due to many problems like finances, lack of facilities, lack of training, lack of encouragement and so on. In recognizing their sporting talents, our institution rewards them with free education, food, accommodation, training and equipment to showcase their talents at an international level.
Currently, our management offered free education for 75 poor students under the sports quota and supported their talent along with their academic curriculum. Utilizing all the facilities rendered, our PSGR Krishnammal college women sports teams participated in 215 tournaments winning 175 medals, including 82 gold, 58 silver and 35 bronze, with 20 medals won at national level competitions, during the academic year 2018-19.
This is the highest participation ever in the history of Coimbatore district, as well as Bharathiyar University-affiliated colleges for women. Our teams participated in Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Dueball, Boxing, Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Ball Badminton, Power Lifting, Weight Lifting, Hockey, Kho-Kho, Taekwondo, Silambam, Wushu, Swimming, Chess, Carrom, Fencing, Archery and various Shooting competitions, at different levels and in different places in India," noted the release.
Dr R Nandini Rangasamy, Chairperson, Secretary Dr. N Yashodadevi and the Principal Dr. S Nirmala appreciated and awarded the students with proficiency certificates and cash awards to all the sports achievers in 2018-19.
