Coimbatore : A district level Chess Tournament was held on the Founder's Day of Kumaraguru Institutions, on Sunday.
Coimbatore : A district level Chess Tournament was held on the Founder's Day of Kumaraguru Institutions, on Sunday.
Various categories of the competition included Under 9, Under 12, Under 15 and an open category. A total of 195 players participated from across the city. Each player competed in a total of five rounds on the basis of the Swiss format. A Swiss-system tournament is a non-eliminating tournament format which features a set number of rounds in a competition.

The inaugural function of the Founder's Day was presided over by Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent of Kumaraguru Institutions who was also present at the chess tournament. The prizes were distributed by Dr. V Raju, President, KCT, Ravi Kandasamy, Head – PMO, KCT and Dr. Udhay Shankar, the Secretary of Dr. N Mahalingam Chess Academy.
Devadarshaan I and Mirinalini J bagged the first place in the Under 9 age category, while Nandish V S and Sherlina S bagged the first place in the Under 12 age category. Midhun Kumar and Rosewe bagged the first place in the Under 15 age category, and in the Open category, Dhanasekhar K bagged the first prize. A total cash award of Rs.30,500 and trophies for the first 10 places in each category were distributed. All participants received certificates of merit.
