For the first time in the State, cricket tournament for visually impaired kicks off in Coimbatore

Coimbatore : With an intent to bring inclusivity and set a platform for showcasing the talents of visually impaired people, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for the blind is organizing a state level cricket tournament 'Challenger Trophy 2018-19' here at the City's forest college grounds between March 9 and 10.

Coimbatore : With an intent to bring inclusivity and set a platform for showcasing the talents of visually impaired people, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for the blind is organizing a state level cricket tournament 'Challenger Trophy 2018-19' here at the City's forest college grounds between March 9 and 10. 

For the first time in the State, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association along with Sashoom Charitable trust is hosting this state level event in Coimbatore, with the motive of selecting best players among the visually impaired for the state team. 



This tournament is featuring three teams (Tamil Nadu blue, Tamil Nadu red and Tamil Nadu green) which comprises of 42 visually impaired cricketers from various part of the State. 



K Ramesh and R. Venkatesh Munikaran, visually impaired cricketers are taking part in the tournament. The teams will play under round robin league basis and top two team will play the finals on March 10. 



"By organising such tournaments, the visually impaired cricketers get a chance to play matches against best players in the State also facilitates for finding young talents from the districts", says V. Mahindran, Secretary of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for the blind. 



He also added that our State team lost in the quarter finals in the first national level cricket tournament for the blind 'Indus Ind bank Nakesh Trophy'.
