Coimbatore : Roll Ball may not have been a familiar term or game until now, to most people in the State but Coimbatore-lass C S Mahimasree's feat of being the first player from Tamil Nadu to represent India in the women's category has created a buzz in the sports fraternity as well as among the public.
Mahimasree, a Class IX student at Suguna PIP School who has been training under Rajasekar of the Coimbatore Roll Ball Association says, "Roll ball helped me improve my concentration in studies as well as improved my physical and mental fitness." She is the goal keeper of the Indian Roll Ball team which won the 3rd Asian Roll Ball Championship.
Mahimasree has won several medals in the state and national level competitions, and also captained the Tamil Nadu state team in the national championship and the Indian team for an invitational tournament in Sri Lanka.
Sharing about her experiences at the Asian Roll Ball championship, Mahimasree said that it was a different experience playing with players from other countries since each team had different techniques. Since this game has Indian roots, we are very strong in technique but the way the other countries approach the game is different.
She also added that students should take this game seriously because the game involves concentration, balancing and coordination which has helped her balance her studies and game well.
"It is Mahimasree's hard work and dedication that has raised her up to this level. Since, Roll Ball is recognised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), there is a future for those interested in playing the Roll Ball game and we are ready to provide free training with the equipment for Government School students too who are interested and capable," stated Rajasekar, Secretary, Coimbatore District Roll Ball Association.
He also highlighted the need of a separate court for this game which would attract more people into the game. "Coimbatore district always stands tall when it comes to sports facilities, and it will be very helpful for the Coimbatore Roll Ball players if we get a court for Roll Ball in the city," reiterated Rajasekar.
