Teams from Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Dindigul, Erode, Theni, Ramanthapuram and Nilgiris district played their first stages match in the TNCA U23, Inter district 'A' zone matches organised by Coimbatore District Cricket Association here at PSG medical college grounds from Feb 19.
Out of eight district teams that took part, Coimbatore and Erode were the two teams qualified to the quater finals in the match held on Friday at PSG IMS 'A'. In the quarter finals, the hosts restricted the visitors just for 91/9 in 20overs.
Following Erode's batting, Coimbatore showcased a responsible batting to chase down 92 in 18th over with 8 wickets remaining. Mohammed Ashik of Coimbatore scored an unbeaten 51 to ride his team home with victory.
